Membership

Activities Include:

• Monthly Meetings: these meetings usually take place on the third Sunday of the month from 1:00-3:00pm, excepting May (Annual Show & Sale), July, August, November (Fall Sale), and December.
  • Education: all sessions include learning on a wide range of subjects concerning growing and showing Gesneriads, sometimes by our own members, other times through supplemental content and experts!
  • Raffles: we have a legendary toonie ($2 CAD) raffle at every meeting that members donate fledgling plants to from their own collections! This is a great opportunity to expand your collections while gaining new interesting plants grow!
  • Workshops: occasionally we’ll have hands-on workshops showcasing potting, propagation, treatments, and more!
  • Member-grown gesneriad sale table: in addition to the toonie raffle, our members are welcome to sell their own plants at each meeting.
• November Sale: members sell plants they have personally grown during this sale, all are welcome!
• May Show & Sale: our members have the chance to showcase their best plants for a chance to be awarded for their efforts! Visitors are welcome to come see these gems while also having the opportunity to purchase their own Gesneriads, grown by the members themselves!

Benefits of Membership:

• Community: meet other like-minded individuals that love plants, and learn more about both of them! You’ll also be able to interact with some of us via our socials!
• Expertise: you’ll have the chance to meet experts in botanicals, and more specifically Gesneriads, from both members of our club and potential guest speakers.
• Access: to unusual and hard-to-find plants! Our members exchange and sell propagation material and plants among each other constantly, and we are always on the look-out for online vendors both nationally and abroad! Come find that rare plant you’ve been looking for with us!
• Nursery Discounts: most plant nurseries offer a 10% discount to club members! Just ask if this an option when you walk up to a cashier at your garden centre of choice. (May not be applicable to Home Depot, Lowe’s, or Canadian Tire – consider places like Figaro’s Garden and GardenWorks)
• Planta App Discount: members can request a discount on their first year of membership to the paid subscription of the Planta App! While the app has free access to more basic features such as tracking growth (journaling) and watering your plants, the paid subscription expands into care features such as: when to fertilize, repot, prepare for different seasons, plant identification, climate warnings, and treatments with the help of AI and / or actual plant experts that will respond to you within 24-72 hours.

Becoming a Member:

To join the club, download and complete the VAVGC Membership Form. The completed form must be submitted to [email protected] with your corresponding payment, unless you plan to pay in person or via cheque.

• Cost: annual membership costs $25 CAD, and can be paid one of three ways:
  • Cash: in-person payment during one of the meetings, sales, or show.
  • Cheque: mailed to our Treasurer, address is provided on the downloadable form.
  • Online: complete payment through our convenient online system, and then share a copy of the transaction with us at [email protected] with your filled out membership form.
